I'm Finally Jumping In
Ok, I'm finally going to do it. Travis has been encouraging me to open an Etsy shop for quite some time and with a bit of nudging from some other people, I've finally decided to do it. I signed up with a username last night, not realizing that I would be stuck with that name. I picked Amy Button Designs *but* there is also an artist designer named Amy Burton and I saw her stuff in a shop in downtown Franklin but I'm having trouble finding her now so maybe it's not a big deal. I have to say that I'm a little freaked out and when I get this way, it's much easier to just forget about it and keep doing what I'm doing. But an Etsy shop is still somewhat anonymous so it's not like I'm dragging my work to art galleries in hopes of becoming "known". Thankfully it's not a huge investment like real estate or other kooky ventures I've been in on. But I need your input to help me choose a name. Should I stick with Amy Button Designs so that people will know my name or should I go with Lemons and Roses Art to link back to my blog or start over and think of something else? I should probably add that I don't want to limit myself just to art because I'd like to have the freedom to do other things...T-Shirts eventually and I might possibly put up some of the embroidery stuff I've done but I'm not sure about that because the embroidering I do is usually pretty detailed and it takes a *long* time and would probably be prohibitively expensive for a buyer...but you get the idea.

Good for you. I sort of like the Lemons and Roses idea.
Stick with your name. Unless you're looking into branding yourself with a shop name and logo and packaging etc... it is far easier for people to see what you're about by simply searching for your name. It also gives you freedom to follow your creative whims (embroidery, painting, stained glass :-))
But, if you think most of your traffic will come from your blog- I say use Lemons and Roses.
(great, now I've just made it difficult)
Anyway, you've got my support!
Tisra
If you haven't posted anything to the etsy site, scrap it and just start again with the url of your final shop name.
And, if you use Lemons and Roses... just call it Lemons and roses, not Lemons and Roses Art- gives you more flexibility.
I like Sassy Mamma's Creations! LOL
Go with what your heart says to go with....
Thanks, guys. Tisra, I would use Lemons and Roses but it's taken which should make me scrap it altogether since it would probably be confusing. I haven't looked to see if they have a shop or if it's just a username. Either way I should probably just go with my name and put my blog name up on the site. Although I do have an Amy Button Designs blog at blogspot. And I wouldn't sign my paintings lemons and roses, I sign them with my name. I've seen another artist that's whole persona (and possibly her name also) is fifi flowers and it's all french themed but I'm not planning on being a themed person. I'll probably just be Amy. Thanks for listening to me sort this out.
Tracy, I think you'll have to be the Sassy Mamma! LOL!
Awww...I was going to say Lemons and Roses too. Too bad it's taken - it's such a strong, pleasant visual. I'm really no good at naming stuff. Kiki has always been my nickname, and I found it easier to use that than my real name when I was naming my shop. But it was pretty much a no-brainer!
Congratulations on opening one up, though!
I mean...go with Amy Button...I love that!!!
