A New Dress and a Brunette

Well, even though I didn't meet my goal of finishing Halle's dress *and* Chloe's dress, I did at least finish Halle's- for now. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out, even though it's far from perfect. But this is another idiot proof project- meaning it's hard for even me to mess it up completely. I do hate the ribbon ties though. I've tried a couple of projects with ribbons for ties and I just hate them. They slip out too easily so I'm sure I'll be making my own straps. Either frome the dress fabric or from bias tape. I'm sure most of you recognize this fabric. Mary and I made a quilt for Halle out of the same thing and I have yards and yards leftover. I was *really* new to sewing back then and figured that I needed enough to recover a couch.
Halle got pretty "hammy" in her posing. And here's a closer look. I'm not going to even bother pointing out all the defects. The end result is wearable and you'd have to take a really close look at it to see what's wrong so I'm happy with it. Halle kept wanting to take it off though so I'm crossing my fingers that she'll wear it.
And I'm a brunette now. Gasp! It's kind of a long story that involves me messing up my highlights but here you have it. The jury is still out on whether I'm happy with it or not. It's a pretty big change and it's kind of hard to get used to. Actually, I looked in the mirror a couple of nights ago when I did it and scared myself. No, really. But I'm supposed to see some friends soon and I think it's better to let people know ahead of time, right? Travis likes it but Amanda says I look better blonde. I think I'll be staying brunette for a while though. The upside is I'm not looking at roots all the time.
And everybody dyes their hair darker in the summer, right? Right....

The dress is ultra cute- WELL DONE! Lael just got a dress with ties that slip out easily. I think I'm going to do a few un-noticeable tacking stitches to keep them from coming out so easily- that might solve it for you, too.

I'm about to dye my hair darker... so there can be two of us! Really, though, I can't wait to see yours in person because the picture doesn't look *dramatic* to me. It looks great.

I really love the little dress! And I'm with you on the ribbon ties - what a pain! But there are so many different ways of solving the strap issue and the front-gathering issue, as I'm sure you've discovered. I tend to like stationary bias-tape straps with a piece of elastic threaded through the neck so that it stretches a bit going on over the head. Does that make sense? Not sure...

On the hair? I like it. Have fun with it for now and go back blonde later if you miss it! As one who tends to go for frequent, high-drama hair changes, though, I'm hardly helpful on the subject :)

Thanks ladies! I've thought about the elastic thing, but don't know how to do it. And I've also thought about the tacking stitches which seems much more probable. I'm still going to make straps because these ribbons just aren't going to hold up.

Tisra, darker? Like black?!? My hair is actually darker than the picture but the camera flashed and I was too lazy to take another one. I don't really like doing the whole self-portrait thing.

Love the dress. She looks adorable in it and you know I love that fabric. So CUTE.

The hair is pretty. I am like Tisra...I don't see a big difference, but I think it looks good. I always think dark hair makes blue eyes seem even bigger and brighter.

Amy the color looks awesome on you! I remember that feeling though. I only went back to being a brunette about a year ago. So much cheaper and hassle free!! It took me some time to get used to it but now it's hard for me to imagine it blonde. I say keep it. It looks FABULOUS darling! :)

and the dress . . . way to go girlie!!!! Awesome job!

What a cute little dress!

I think you're one of those lucky people who is so pretty you'd look good no matter what color your hair is. Alas, not all of us are so blessed! :-)
