Apparently I'm Not Funny

Apparently I'm not funny anymore. At least that's what my husband tells me.

Actually, a couple of weeks ago he told me that my blog was no longer funny and I should work on it. The nerve, really, from someone that doesn't even have a blog!

So, I haven't posted in a couple of weeks because I'm trying to come up with something funny.

Hmmm....I think I'll have to work on it some more.

I also have pics to put up and other things like that. But now I must go because I have to take Amanda to an eye appt. Much more later, I promise!

A Nice Surprise

I was in the kitchen this morning, getting some breakfast when I heard the front door open. Knowing that Dad had left for work I thought maybe he had forgotten something and came back, so imagine my surprise when I saw Travis standing there. He had to work today so I asked him, "What are you doing here? Did you get fired?". That last question was a joke. Well, it turns out that he's worked over so much this week that they had to send him home early to cut down on his overtime. So, I get several hours with him all to myself. Well, not all to myself, we have girls to tend to. Anyway, we're going to go out and do fun stuff, I'm so excited!

In the world of kids, Halle is fussy, fussy, fussy. I really don't know what the issue is. She won't lay down for a nap or play for too long. She will play with Chloe for a while. Honestly, those two girls love each other! It's so cute to see Halle's little face light up and squeal with delight when she sees her big sis. I put Halle in Chloe's bed two nights ago while I read bedtime stories and she was so excited! Anyway, back to my fussy kid. It could possibly be teeth, but the only little bumps I feel on her gums are her canines and I really don't want that to be the case. I was also thinking maybe she is ready to start crawling. I remember that Chloe used to fuss a lot before she started crawling. But I really want my little angel back instead of the screaming crying kid she's been replaced with. Really, I love her even when she is screaming and crying, you know.

Amanda got her phone back today. She's excited and has heard from her friend Jennifer and her "friend" Clark. No, Clark is not the "like interest" for last month, this is a new one. He does seem to be especially smitten by her and she actually seems to appreciate it. She usually disses guys like that. So, there will be a dinner with the parental units when she's ungrounded to see if we approve.

I will wrap up now and go get my screaming angel out of her bed because she hasn't fallen asleep even though she's been screaming for 30 minutes.

Happy 4th of July!!!

Old Town Helena

We had a nice day yesterday. Travis was off so we decided to take the girls to Old Town Helena, now if I was technologically saavy then I would have a link in there but I'm not, sorry.

First we went to lunch at Zaxby's, which btw you should try if you get the chance. Then we headed to Old Town Helena. OTH is an area of Helena that they are working to revitalize and has some charm. It's on a lake with a few restaurants and quaint shops. You can tell that Helena's past is probably a poor one because the old buildings are quite small but it's a nice little place to visit nonetheless. We visited Daffodil's, which is a cute little boutique with not so little prices, featuring women's clothing, purses, shoes, etc. Then we went to Knit Nouveau. I was pretty sure that it was a knitting shop when we went in but thought that they might have other things as well. But it was just knitting stuff. I felt silly walking in. I made sure to tell the girl, a hippy looking chick that was probably the owner, that I don't knit. She looked at me like I was a little nutty, but I made sure to tell her that all my friends knit. It was a cute shop with couches and things in the back I'm assuming are for group knitting. Then Amanda told me that Miss Patty "yarned" her a scarf and I said it was time to go.

Then we headed across the street to the cute Bead place. If I was a good girl, I would have brought the business card in the house, but I'm not and I didn't. I think it was Bead Biz. They had lots of already made pieces for sale as well as the supplies to make your own and also a table to creat your pieces there. They also offer the supplies and things to make your own silver jewelry. It's kind of cool. They use this stuff that looks like chewed bubble gum and you shape it and then fire it in a kiln until it becomes green ware, like ceramics. Then you do something else to it and brush it up and you have your very own silver jewelry.

Next we headed to Big Mountain Coffee. Wow! I was in love as soon as we walked through the door. Picture Starbucks but with charm. Ther are about 7 sofas and several chairs and tables. Nothing matches and there is a stage set up at the front. They serve coffee, coffee drinks, tea, ice cream, sandwiches, etc. They have live music this weekend and have drama type things as well. I think it's my new favorite place to go.

There is an amphitheatre as well that shows movies outdoors on Fridays during the summer and has concerts during the week.

This town is very much like Mayberry and I think we've found where we want to live while we're here. The schools are some of the best in the area, the housing prices are moderate, and overall there is a great sense of community. I like the thought of raising the girls in a very "homey" feeling place and though there are drawbacks I still think it's where we want to be.

Tired

I'm tired. I'm not pregnant so I'm sure I'll get over it soon, but I'm tired nonetheless. Halle is apparently teething again and hasn't slept well in several days. Well, actually she slept better last night, but still 5 hours of interrupted sleep for the last 5 days is making Amy grouchy. I really shouldn't complain. If circumstances are perfect Halle sleeps just fine and for the most part during these last 6 months she's been just fine. It's just that by the time I finally get her to sleep and I actually fall asleep she wakes up again. It's usually in the morning hours by then, Travis is up by 3:30, and then Dad (who is absolutely the LOUDEST person on the planet) was up this morning by 5:30. I don't think I need to tell you that I didn't WANT to get up at 5:30 after being awakened at 1:30 and 3:30. Anyway, I'm grouchy. I don't want to take a nap because I have things to do, but I don't want to do anything because, again, I'm grouchy. So, I'll end this lovely post, try to sleep tonight, and maybe I'll post a happy, happy story tomorrow.

Happy Father's Day

Happy Father's Day to all you Dads out there.

In honor of this special day, I took the girls to Publix (yesterday) and let Chloe decorate a cookie cake for Trav. It was kind of neat. Publix had a table set up with decorator bags full of icing and kids could decorate a 10" cookie for their dad. I helped Chloe while Amanda walked around, she's 15, remember? Anyway, it entertained Chloe for about 2 and a half minutes. I really had a good time though.

Travis had to work today and after that we did some driving to get more familiar with the area. School districts and all. Anyway, then we had dinner with my parents, talked to Pop and Shane, and spent some time together. All in all it was a good day. I swear one of these years we'll get to Fl. to spend time with Trav's parents on their respective days.

More later, it's time for tucking children in to beds, but here's hoping Father's Day was a great one for all.

Randomness...

Wow, I've been slacking. Well, not in real life, but in blog life. So, for the updates...

Halle started eating cereal this week. I have not been as anxious to start Halle on cereal since she sleeps during the night and hasn't seemed to have any trouble just being on breast milk. But, lately she's been trying to get into our plates at dinner time and has been grabbing at our drinks, so cute! So, I thought I'd give it a try and see how she liked it. Man, did she like it. Travis was feeding her the other day and she kept grabbing the spoon and was trying to jam it in her mouth. Just like her big sis! She has two crooked little teeth in the bottom and when she's lying in the floor she'll arch her back and kick her feet to scoot herself across the floor. We have to watch out because she'll scoot her head into the fireplace hearth, which is brick, or into the legs on the sofa. She'll also do that if she wants you to pick her up. She will also hold her arms out (clumsily) to whomever she wants to hold her. She'll add a grunt or cry if you don't comply. She seems to be making quicker progress than Chloe, but my memory may be fuzzy since it's been so long.

I have been busy looking at schools. I've been comparing ACT scores and student to teacher ratios, etc., trying to figure out which area is the most desireable. I'm trying to avoid homeschool again next year, as is Amanda. So, hopefully we'll get all that worked out soon. I need to get maternity clothes sorted and back to their owner-Christina- since she's expecting again. I'm going to guess that she and Mary are due at the same time. I can honestly say I'm glad to be done with the whole maternity clothes thing.

Travis is doing better since he's only working one job. He still doesn't get enough sleep though. It's hard to get to bed at 7:30, heck, the Button's are just getting started by then (I'm trying to fix that). He is looking for something computer related. I really think you have to know somebody to get in somewhere.

Amanda is bored. That's pretty much it.

Chloe is cute. She goes to the Y with me on a regular basis. Halle usually stays with Grandma. She is much more skiddish and doesn't like new people. Chloe, the life of the party, wants to go make friends and have fun. She's watching Strawberry Shortcake for the millionth time.

More later...

Stuff

Hmmm, where to start?

Last week was kind of a bummer that put us in a funk for a while. Without going into it too much, Eric called and offered Travis his old job back at a humongous raise (it's nice to be loved). I think we knew immediately that it wasn't something we should pursue but that was the hardest decision we've ever made. Anyway, a week of the blues ensued.

We had Chloe's birthday party on Friday since Trav, Halle, and I had to go to Atlanta on Saturday for an Arbonne convention.

The convention was good. If it didn't do anything else it showed me that I have a personal journey to take, not just monetarily, but there are some kinks I need to work out. You know, comfort zone and all.

Anyway, Halle has two teeth now and Chloe is a beautiful 4 year old. Wow, time flies!

Amanda is grounded for two months. It's a long story, again, last week was rough.

More later...

Comfort Zone

I like comfort zones. They're comfy. Like being in flannel pajamas under an enormous comforter, I like the norm. I know I move from state to state at the drop of a hat but apparently it's still within my comfort zone. Arbonne, on the other hand, is not in my comfort zone. Well, doing classes is fine it's not too difficult and so far it's been friends and family hosting them so again it's comfortable. Unfortunately, I've run out of friends and family and now have to move on to strangers.

I don't like talking to strangers. It's a habit I developed as a child. Everybody knows you don't talk to strangers. Now however, I not only have to talk to strangers I have to tell them about my business. It's not that I don't believe in it or the amazing opportunity, I really do, it's just that I don't like to HAVE to talk to strangers. I actually haven't felt this out of sorts since I started college. This guy asked me one time, "so why do you run across campus?". Well, I didn't actually run across campus, it was more like race walking. I just remember being so scared because I'd never been to a school that big before (my high school had 50 students) and I was a bundle of nerves the whole time I was there. I remember being too scared to ask anyone where the bathroom was, so thankfully I only had 3 hours of classes. It took me half of the first semester to finally check my mail box and trying to find out where grades were posted took me forever; I did actually have to ask someone.

I did finally settle into a routine during my second year, but even still I don't think I ever felt totally comfortable there and it took me 6 years to graduate.

Anyway, Arbonne. It's an incredible opportunity and I know how to make it work, I just don't know how I'll be able to do it. UGH!

Anyway, enough whining. I am better now.

Can somebody please tell me what's going on in Florida? Since I'm from there I take it personally when anyone criticizes it, but come on? This is just one story. Remember Jessica Lunsford? A couple of weeks after that (while we were there) it was a little Mexican girl. Yesterday I read about a man that abducted 2 little girls from their parents homes while they slept and raped them. Thankfully the girls were found safe. Those girls were from Port Charlotte which is a small beach community that I would live in and have considered safe. Then there's the little girl in this column that thankfully they found alive. I love Florida and have thought I would like to live there again, but this is really crazy. I know that no place is really safe but some places are definitely safer than others. I'm ranting, I know. I wish I had something profound to say, but it really just makes me mad.

We have a breakthrough!!!

Halle has a tooth!!! Well, she's going to anyway. When she stuck my finger in her mouth this morning (to chew on it) I felt the sharpness of a little tooth that has just broken through her little gums. I'm sad. She's our last baby and my days of toothless grins are coming to an end :(

aaarrrrggg!

I started a post yesterday, saved it as draft and now it's gone. It is very seldom that I have a chance to post uninterrupted, which is what happened yesterday, and now my hard work is gone. And since I saved it I didn't worry about remembering what I wrote so now I can't remember what it was about.

So now I guess I could write about the incredibly sweet date my husband took me on Sunday.

I was actually supposed to be in TN that day, but I really couldn't bear the thought of being out of town again when Travis was off. So, we made a quick trip to Eric and Tisra's (it's amazing how much fun you can pack into less than 24 hours) and headed back home to see Trav. Saturday wasn't really much of a "spend time together"day because I went right to bed when we got home. I had a severe allergy attack while in Nashville so I wasn't feeling well when we got back. Anyway, Travis made reservations for us at Ruth's Chris for Sunday afternoon with plans for the Botanical Gardens following. I had never been to Ruth's Chris before and Travis had been there twice while we lived in Nashville so he really has wanted to take me there for quite a while. I'm sure you all know that Travis works there so we got a 50% discount in case you were wondering. Anyway, we had a divine meal. I highly, highly recommend the crab cakes. They were not you're typical smashed flat breaded cakes with a few specks of white fish here and there. In fact when they came to the table I saw these long white strips in the mounds that are the crabcakes and asked Travis if they were onions. I was quite surprised when he said "No, that's crab". I was equally surprised at how wonderful they were. Next time I'm skipping the steak and am having crab cakes instead. The chop salad is wonderful as well. I decided to try it because it had hearts of palm in it and thought I'd like to try it and I loved it.

OK, so it sounds more like this is a restaurant review rather than a blog so I'll skip to the end and tell you that if you go and don't have the creme' brulee you're nuts!

The atmosphere was wonderful with waterfalls and koi ponds surrounding our section with palm trees and flowers all around. It was similar to the Opryland Hotel, just on a much smaller scale. The service was great and the only downside was that since Travis works there I met about 15 people so it was not as private as I would have liked.

Anyway, after that we had a very nice walk at the Botanical Gardens and spent a lot of time in the Rose Garden. It was so relaxing and just nice to spend time with my husband that I never see. Then we went back home to chaos, but we both felt much better for having spent a few hours away.

What Kind of American English Do You Speak?
Your Linguistic Profile:
55% General American English
20% Dixie
20% Yankee
5% Upper Midwestern
0% Midwestern

It's funny, I've never considered myself to have a southern accent, but I've certainly never thought of myself as a yankee either and I've been told several times that I have a midwestert accent.
